Fit & Compatibility

• Grommet-sealed connections throughout — base, bowl, and hose ports all seat with rubber grommets (included) for a snug, airtight fit.
• Ships with a traditional KM Egyptian clay bowl. Upgrade to a phunnel-style bowl for longer sessions with wetter blends.

How to Use It

• Fill the base with water until the down-stem is submerged roughly 15 mm below the waterline. Too much water restricts draw; too little loses filtration.
• Seat the stem into the base grommet and press firmly until snug. Fit the hose into the hose port grommet.
• Pack the clay bowl with your chosen blend, apply foil or a Provost, and place two 26 mm coconut coals to start. Add a third after 10–15 minutes if needed.
• Purge stale smoke by blowing gently into the hose — the ball-bearing valve releases through the purge port.

Craft & Build Quality

Every Balha Safari is hand-forged in Khalil Mamoon's Cairo workshop. The twisted stem is shaped and hammered by hand, then plated or coated in small batches. The hub features embossed floral and leaf patterns, and the scalloped coal tray is stamped metal with tooled edging. The glass base is hand-painted with traditional KM calligraphy and motifs — no two are identical.

Care & Maintenance

• Rinse the stem with warm water after every session. A thin stem brush helps clear residue from the down-stem interior.
• Wash the glass base with warm water and a splash of lemon juice or bicarb to remove ghosting between flavours.
• Wipe the exterior metalwork with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners on plated or oxide finishes — they strip the coating.
• Replace grommets when they lose their seal. We stock Khalil Mamoon grommets and replacement parts year-round.
• Store upright or disassembled in a dry space. Keep the glass base wrapped if transporting.

These are not defects; they are evidence of genuine handcraft. The hookah you receive may differ slightly from the product images shown. Base patterns and colourways may vary between production runs. Your hookah may ship with the stem and base packed separately for safe transit.

Is this a genuine Khalil Mamoon?

What is the difference between the Gold, Oxide, and Silver finishes?

All three share the same Balha Safari stem shape, airway, and construction. The difference is purely cosmetic. Gold features polished gold plating with a black and gold base. Oxide has a darker bronze patina with a black and gold base. Silver is polished chrome with a blue and silver base. Choose whichever suits your setup.

Can I use a Provost or heat management device with this hookah?

Yes. The included clay bowl is compatible with foil, foil-plus-screen setups, and the Kaloud Lotus Provost. This gives you flexible heat control depending on your preferred packing style.

Will the hookah I receive look exactly like the photos?

Expect minor variations. Khalil Mamoon hookahs are hand-forged individually in Cairo — plating tone, base paint patterns, and small cosmetic details will differ slightly from unit to unit. This is normal for handmade Egyptian pipes and part of what makes each piece unique.
