The Na Grani On The Edge is one of the more interesting HMDs we keep at our Melbourne store — a one-piece stainless HMD machined from AISI 304 food-grade steel, no lid, no moving parts, built to outlast pretty much anything else in the category. Heat control is hands-on: you adjust the coals, not a dial. Customers who've tried it tend not to go back to lidded aluminium devices.

Why We Stock This HMD

• AISI 304 food-grade stainless steel handles way higher temperatures than aluminium HMDs and won't warp over years of use. The added thermal mass keeps heat distribution stable across long sessions.
• One-piece machined construction — no hinges, no clips, no parts to break or lose. Built to last indefinitely.
• Open-top design gives you direct visual and physical access to your coals — reposition, add or remove without fighting a hot lid. Built-in tong slots make handling simple.
• 74 mm bowl contact diameter, 56 mm inner diameter, 24 mm depth — fits most phunnel bowls including popular Oblako, Kong and BSTD models.
• Versatile heat range: two coals for a mellow blonde session, three to four for full-strength dark leaf. The steel handles whatever you throw at it.
• ~120 g weight is substantial enough to sit securely without making the bowl top-heavy.

Fit & Compatibility

The 74 mm contact diameter sits cleanly on most standard phunnel bowls. Works with Kong, Oblako, BSTD and similar brands. If your bowl has a defined HMD lip, it'll fit. Bring your bowl into our Melbourne store and we'll check the fit at the counter.

Looking After It

• Always cool fully before handling — stainless steel holds heat longer than aluminium and will burn you well after the session ends.
• Warm water and a soft brush or sponge. Avoid abrasive scrubbers.
• AISI 304 doesn't rust or oxidise under normal use — a quick rinse after every session keeps it clean.
• For deep cleaning, you can heat it on an electric coil burner alongside your coals to burn off stubborn residue.
• Store in the included branded wooden box.

How does it compare to a Kaloud Lotus?

Different philosophy. The Lotus is aluminium with an adjustable lid; the Na Grani is stainless steel with no lid at all. The Na Grani handles higher heat, lasts longer, and is simpler — but you control heat with the coals themselves rather than a dial. Most experienced smokers who try it prefer the directness.

Does it really work without a lid?

Yes — that's the design. Coal management (adding, removing, repositioning) gives you finer heat control than a lid does, once you get the hang of it. Built-in tong slots make handling the coals easy.
